Launch of NSPRE Follows Success of Wireless Carrier Startup
In 2020, entrepreneur Chaymeriyia Moncrief founded consumer electronics company NSPRE with the goal of “inspiring culture through social technology.”
Just two years later, she has made history as the first Black woman to own a smart glasses brand. Moncrief’s fascination with technology and gadgets traces back to childhood.
After a negative experience with a cell provider in 2013, she launched prepaid wireless carrier Tesix Wireless Network in 2018. The company attracted investment interest even before launch, reaching a $5.9 million valuation.
“Everything is included in the bill. When you pick the $25 plan that is what you pay,” Moncrief said, noting Tesix’s transparency.
Smart Glasses Drive Growth and Innovation
NSPRE is best known for its Smart Glasses, which feature built-in microphones for calls, in-directional audio for privacy and music controls. The glasses were a turning point for the brand after its 2020 founding, paving the way for new products like the upcoming NX Pro Plus LE.
The company raised $1.5 million in its first year and established headquarters in Alabama in 2021. Features of the two Smart Glasses models include:
Gen 1
- 7 hour battery
- Ability to control music
- Answer/reject calls from glasses
Gen 2
- 12 hour battery
- Prescription lens capability
- Enhanced call management
Founder’s Tech Fascination Rooted in Childhood
Moncrief’s passion for technology took hold early on. At age eight, she began sketching smartphone designs, envisioning the brands she’d one day launch.
Her entrepreneurial endeavors started small, selling items to classmates. But the seed was planted for the barrier-breaking success to come with NSPRE.
“Once I had this understanding, my research took off and this is when I really started to execute on the idea,” Moncrief said of her 2018 wireless carrier. That paved the way for making history by 2024 in smart eyewear.
