Rosalind “Roz” Brewer, the former CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance, has joined the Board of Directors of the Black Economic Alliance (BEA), a non-partisan coalition of Black business leaders and advocates committed to driving economic progress for the Black community.
“BEA has a uniquely powerful mandate to expand Black economic power and prosperity,” said Brewer. “From my leadership experiences spanning HBCU campuses to the boardrooms of corporate America, I understand first-hand the inextricable link between Black economic advancement and the growth of the entire American economy. I am honored and excited to work with BEA’s Board and leadership and lend my expertise to BEA’s next phase of impact.”
Brewer’s Trailblazing Career and Commitment to Racial Equity
Brewer, a Spelman College graduate, has had an illustrious career, breaking down barriers and championing Black economic advancement at some of the world’s most influential companies.
She previously served as the Chief Operating Officer at Starbucks, where she helped implement racial bias training for over 8,000 store locations.
In 2017, Brewer became the CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance, making her only the third Black woman to lead a Fortune 500 company. Her decision to join the BEA Board further solidifies her commitment to driving economic progress in the Black community.
Aligning with BEA’s Mission and Vision
Brewer’s extensive experience and expertise align perfectly with BEA’s mission to advance policies that improve work, wages, and wealth for Black Americans.
As the organization’s CEO, Samantha Tweedy, expressed,
“Roz has spent her trailblazing career breaking down barriers to Black economic advancement. She has championed BEA’s priorities at some of the world’s most influential companies, and I look forward to her vision and expertise accelerating BEA’s efforts and impact.”
Strengthening the BEA Board of Directors
Brewer’s addition to the BEA Board of Directors further bolsters the organization’s leadership. The Board, which includes executives from a range of industries, is committed to using its collective power and business acumen to drive meaningful change in the Black community.
“Roz’s professional achievements are inspirational to countless Black professionals, and I am thrilled she is starting a new chapter as a BEA Board Member,” said BEA Board Co-Chair and Executive Chairman of Cerevel Therapeutics, Tony Coles.
“As only the third Black woman ever to head a Fortune 500 company, her perspective will be critical in our work to advance Black economic mobility.”
