Keeana Barber, CEO and founder of WDB Marketing, has made history. She’s become the first Black woman to own a Signarama franchise on Chicago’s famed Michigan Avenue. This milestone marks a significant achievement for Black entrepreneurs in the marketing and signage industries.
A Grand Opening Celebration on the Magnificent Mile
The downtown location recently celebrated its grand opening with fanfare. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Ald. Pat Dowell, and Arielle Johnson, CEO of the Business Leadership Council, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Local business owners, community leaders, and media gathered to recognize Barber’s accomplishment.
“I am incredibly honored to bring Signarama to Michigan Avenue,” Barber said. “This isn’t just about expanding my business; it’s about showing what’s possible for women of color and making an indelible mark on a city that has supported me.”
From WDB Marketing to Signarama: A Journey of Success
Barber’s entrepreneurial journey began in 2006 with the launch of WDB Marketing. Her agency specializes in branding, graphic design, printing, and promotional services. Over the years, Barber has built a reputation for innovation and excellence.
The new Signarama location is Barber’s second, following her successful South Holland branch. It will offer customized signage solutions, including monument signs, vehicle graphics, and wall murals. These services aim to help local businesses stand out in Chicago’s competitive market.
Breaking Barriers in Business and Beyond
Barber’s achievement comes at a crucial time. Black women entrepreneurs are the fastest-growing group of business owners in the U.S. However, they often face significant barriers to success, including limited access to capital and resources.
Mayor Johnson highlighted the importance of this milestone. “It was my honor to welcome WDB Marketing to Chicago this weekend for its grand opening in the South Loop,” he said. “Owner Keeana Barber represents what’s possible when we invest in Black women-owned businesses.”
