Tubi’s Remarkable Viewership Growth
Tubi, the free streaming platform, has achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing the viewership of all major streaming services except YouTube.
According to Nielsen data, May was Tubi’s most-watched month ever, with an average audience of 1 million viewers, a staggering 50% increase from the previous year.
A Consumer-First Approach Pays Off
Tubi’s success can be attributed to its consumer-first approach, offering a free ad-supported streaming service while other platforms continue to hike subscription costs.
As consumers grapple with rising prices, Tubi has emerged as a compelling alternative, providing budget-conscious viewers with a cost-effective entertainment option.
“Tubi continues to pull ahead from its (ad-supported video on demand) competition and post faster than expected growth,” analysts at research firm MoffettNathanson stated.
Democratizing Filmmaking for Black Creators
Tubi’s commitment to amplifying diverse voices extends beyond its consumer-centric model.
The platform has forged a partnership with Issa Rae’s ColorCreative production company to launch Stubio, a fan-fueled studio designed to empower aspiring Black filmmakers and their audiences.
“They have done a great job of seeing their audience, cultivating that audience, and now investing in that audience tenfold,” Rae shared. “Not only investing in the audience, but they’re investing in creators to make long-form work for that audience.”
A Gamechanger for Representation
Tubi’s initiatives have the potential to be a gamechanger for representation in the entertainment industry.
By providing a platform for Black filmmakers to showcase their work and connect with their audiences, Tubi is fostering a democratized creative process that amplifies underrepresented voices.
As Adam Lewinson, Tubi’s chief content officer, acknowledged, “Of course, those are things that are going to positively impact us.” Tubi’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility positions the platform as a driving force for change in the streaming landscape.
