A Serendipitous Encounter
Idris Elba, the acclaimed actor, and Sabrina Dhowre, a model and UN Goodwill Ambassador, celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary on April 27th, 2024.
Their love story began in 2017 at a party in Vancouver, where they met serendipitously. Idris has described their connection as “love at first sight.”
“It was love at first sight,” Idris recounted during an appearance on The View. “I went out on my only day off, true story, it was a Sunday night, I went to this party and there she was. The rest is history.”
Celebrating Five Years of Marital Bliss
To commemorate their milestone anniversary, the couple exchanged heartfelt tributes on Instagram. Idris posted an amusing video of their everyday moments, from lighthearted conversations about flatulence to casual outings, captioning it with a playful message: “Happy 5th year wedding anniversary Sabbi. I love you like cooked food ALWAYS. Is that the game??”
Sabrina, 34, shared a video of the couple sharing a loving embrace during what appeared to be a hike. “To the love of my life, Happy Anniversary ❤️❤️❤️,” she captioned the post, adding humorously, “We made it to 5 years sister wives!!!”
A Unique Bond
The “sister wives” reference stems from Sabrina’s acknowledgment of sharing her husband with his adoring fans. “I always say Taylor Swift has the Swifties, Beyoncé’s got the BeyHive – I got the sister wives,” she explained on the Tamron Hall show. “I get so much support from the sister wives. I love it.”
After meeting at the Vancouver party, the couple’s romance blossomed quickly. By 2018, they had announced their engagement, and in April 2019, they celebrated a three-day wedding in Morocco, even gracing the cover of British Vogue’s July issue with their bridal photos.
A Blended Family
While this is Sabrina’s first marriage, Idris has children from previous relationships – daughter Isan, born in 2002, and son Winston, born in 2014.
The couple has discussed the possibility of having children together, but Sabrina wants to do it on her own timeline, focusing on her business ventures and embracing her role as a stepmother for now.
