Tennis Icon Immortalized as Barbie Role Model
In a remarkable tribute to her groundbreaking tennis career, Venus Williams has been honored with her very own Barbie doll.
This special edition doll is part of Mattel’s latest campaign, celebrating nine female athletes from around the world who have made significant impacts in their respective sports.
The Venus Williams Barbie doll meticulously captures the tennis legend’s iconic on-court style. Dressed in a white tennis dress, visor, and matching sneakers, the doll holds a racket and sports Williams’ signature gold hoop earrings – a true embodiment of her powerful presence on the tennis court.
A Career Defined by Breaking Barriers
For Williams, this honor resonates deeply with her life’s mission.
“Throughout my career, I’ve always been driven by the idea of shattering glass ceilings and staying true to myself, and Barbie’s mission couldn’t resonate more deeply with that ethos,” Williams expressed.
Inspiring the Next Generation
With her Barbie doll, Williams aims to inspire young girls to pursue their dreams relentlessly. “I’m honored to be recognized as a sports role model and join forces with Team Barbie to continue empowering the next generation of young girls to never stop believing in their dreams,” she said.
Alongside Williams, eight other remarkable female athletes have been immortalized in Barbie form. This diverse group includes Olympic champion boxer Estelle Mossely (France), paratriathlon athlete Susana Rodriguez (Spain), swimmer Federica Pellegrini (Italy), gymnast Alexa Moreno (Mexico), Olympic gymnast Rebeca Andrade (Brazil), and soccer star Mary Fowler (Australia).
Empowering Girls Through Sports
Mattel’s Barbie Inspiring Women campaign aims to encourage girls to stay active in sports and pursue their passions.
“By shining a light on these inspirational athletes and their stories, we hope to champion the belief that every young girl deserves the opportunity to pursue her passions and turn her dreams into reality,” said Krista Berger, Senior Vice President of Barbie and Global Head of Dolls at Mattel.
