Nigerian-American filmmaker Rosemary Idisi has made history by winning Tubi’s first-ever Stubios Greenlight Contest. Her original horror film “Glamping” will premiere on the streaming platform on Friday, October 24. The announcement came on October 3, marking a major milestone for diverse representation in horror cinema.
Idisi secured her victory through fan votes in the groundbreaking contest. The competition is part of Tubi’s new fan-driven creator studio. This initiative aims to support aspiring filmmakers and give them direct access to a streaming audience.
Fan-Driven Victory Launches New Horror Film
The contest victory came after Idisi received the most fan votes among all participants. Tubi’s Stubios Greenlight Contest represents a new approach to content creation. It puts power directly in the hands of viewers and emerging creators.
“I’m passionate about bringing diverse characters to life on screen, especially in genres where we haven’t traditionally seen ourselves,” Idisi explained. She emphasized how Stubios provided her with crucial resources. These included access, mentorship, and community support that young filmmakers rarely receive.
What “Glamping” Is About
“Glamping” started as a short film before expanding into a feature-length production. The story follows aspiring influencer Olivia and her friends during a weekend getaway in Big Bear. What begins as a seemingly perfect trip quickly turns into a nightmare when a masked killer targets the group.
The feature film version goes deeper than the original short. Idisi expanded the characters‘ backstories to build more suspense. She also wanted to showcase more diverse representation of survival tactics in traditional horror films.
Tubi’s Stubios Program Supports Emerging Filmmakers
Tubi launched Stubios in 2024 as part of its Tubi for Creators initiative. The program is a fan-driven creator studio designed to help aspiring filmmakers. It provides funding, mentorship, and a direct path to premiere original long-form content on the platform.
The program gives creators greater control over their projects. Tubi aims to bridge the gap to Hollywood while expanding its audience. The platform also champions underrepresented voices in media.
Industry Recognition and Support
Adam Lewinson, chief content officer at Tubi, praised Idisi’s achievement. “At Tubi, we champion untold stories—and Rosemary’s genre-defying vision for Glamping is exactly that,” he stated. He congratulated Idisi for winning the contest and expressed excitement about bringing her storytelling to Tubi’s audience.
Idisi herself celebrated the win on social media. She described herself as “just a Nigerian girl with big dreams and stories to tell.” Her victory represents a significant step forward for diverse filmmakers in the horror genre.
Breaking Barriers in Horror Cinema
Idisi’s work as an actress, writer, and producer positions her uniquely in the industry. She brings a fresh perspective to horror and thriller films. Her focus on diverse characters addresses a long-standing gap in genre filmmaking.
The success of “Glamping” could open doors for other underrepresented creators. Tubi’s model demonstrates that fan support can directly translate into opportunities. This approach helps stories find their audience while giving creators the platform they deserve.
