The Grambling State University women’s basketball team made history on January 3rd, demolishing the College of Biblical Studies by a jaw-dropping margin of 159-18.
The astounding 141-point gap set a new NCAA Division I record for the largest margin of victory, breaking a 2018 record.
Total Domination from the Start
The Lady Tigers wasted no time asserting their dominance, racing to a 34-0 lead before the College of Biblical Studies managed to get on the scoreboard. Grambling State took a commanding 46-4 edge into the second quarter.
By halftime, the Tigers had extended their advantage to 82-10 against the overmatched Ambassadors. Ultimately, Grambling State shot a blistering 59% from the field while forcing 57 turnovers.
Eight Tigers Score Double Figures
The scoring onslaught featured double-digit outputs from eight Grambling State players. Guard Arianna Mosley led the barrage with 27 points, followed by 20 from Kahia Warmsley. Forwards Amanda Blake and DeMya Young contributed 15 points apiece.
In total, 13 Tigers logged minutes and every player scored at least six points in the record-setting performance.
First Year Program Overwhelmed
While surprising given the scale, the shocking result becomes more understandable given the context. The College of Biblical Studies is in its first year of competition with a roster comprised solely of freshmen.
The fledgling Houston program also lost a lopsided affair 94-22 back in November. But being on the wrong end of history left the Ambassadors 0-7 on the year.
For the powerhouse Grambling State women, the epic beating moved their record to 6-5 ahead of conference play. After making history, the Tigers turn their focus to a weekend clash with rival Prairie View A&M as they launch their SWAC schedule.
