Issa Rae Gathers Investors to Launch New Creative Studio
Hot on the heels of her hit HBO series “Insecure” wrapping up, acclaimed actress, writer and producer Issa Rae is setting her sights on a bold new venture – her own creative studio.
Rae is currently gathering investors to build out the independent studio focused on uplifting diverse filmmaking talent.
Frustrations with Hollywood Fuel Ambitious Goal
Rae’s decision stems partly from recent frustrations with traditional Hollywood studios. The recent cancellation of her streaming show “Rap Sh!t” after just two seasons left her questioning the industry’s economic priorities overriding creative values.
“I recognize that I have to do well economically to be able to make a change,” Rae explained in a recent Time interview, signaling her intent to foster opportunity however possible. “Money moves things faster – and so much of what I do is with the intention to help make those moves.”
Expanding Her Media Empire
The creative studio marks yet another extension of Rae’s flourishing media empire. She currently heads the production company HOORAE Media and last year launched a marketing division called Fête focused on diverse consumer branding projects.
Now Rae is looking to carve out a plot of land specifically uplifting multi-cultural filmmakers.
“I have my little stake in this limited plot of land, and I’m gonna make sure that I bring in as many people to live on it as possible,” she continued.
Rae’s unparalleled work ethic and passion for inclusive storytelling position her new studio to shake up traditional media landscapes.
Wherever her relentless drive takes her next, one thing is clear – Issa Rae will continue breaking boundaries and empowering new creative voices.
