Representation in Personal Growth
Acclaimed actress Viola Davis and esteemed journalist Joy Reid are making strides in the self-help industry by investing in ALTR, a soon-to-launch personal development and learning subscription app focused on Black women.
Developed in partnership with Davis and her husband Julius Tennon’s JuVee Productions, the app aims to fill a gap for Black self-help consumers who lack access to culturally competent and specific content.
Collective Wisdom at Your Fingertips
ALTR promises to be a groundbreaking platform, featuring short-form audiobooks by Black cultural icons and authors. Davis expressed her excitement about the initiative, stating, “There is power in our collective knowledge. Life becomes easier when you can learn from those who’ve been there before.”
“Julius and I are excited to take part in building a platform that will enable millions of people to find guidance for personal growth and see themselves in a space where we’re not usually represented,” Davis added.
Navigating Uncertain Times
Reid, a prominent cable news host, highlighted the app’s potential to provide clarity and community for Black Americans navigating tumultuous social and political landscapes. “I love that ALTR provides clarity, comfort and community for those looking to master their own destinies,” she said.
Amplifying Authentic Voices
David A. Wilson, co-founder and CEO of ALTR, emphasized the need for the app’s offering, stating, “There is a yearning for solutions and knowledge from our cultural perspectives.
Our authentic voices are lacking in the existing self-help, wellness and educational platforms, which is why we’ve been able to galvanize broad support from trusted voices in our community.”
With the backing of influential figures like Davis and Reid, ALTR is poised to revolutionize the self-help industry by amplifying Black voices and providing culturally relevant personal growth resources for Black women.
Empowering a Community
Through its unique approach and commitment to representation, ALTR aims to empower Black women on their journeys of self-discovery and personal development.
By offering a platform where they can see themselves reflected and learn from the collective wisdom of Black cultural icons, the app promises to be a game-changer in the self-help realm.
