AND1, the iconic basketball apparel and sneaker brand, has made history by signing Harlem Globetrotter Alexis Morris as its first female ambassador.
This groundbreaking partnership aims to empower women and inspire youth in sports and streetball culture.
Breaking Barriers: AND1 Welcomes Its First Female Ambassador
Alexis Morris, a 2023 NCAA champion, brings a unique perspective to her role as AND1’s pioneer female signee. Her journey from the streets of Beaumont, Texas, to professional basketball aligns perfectly with AND1’s ethos.
“AND1 is a movement powered by Black people, Black culture, inner cities, and urban basketball,” Morris stated at the brand’s annual Open Run event in New York. This partnership represents a homecoming for Morris, who fought for her spot on male-dominated streetball courts growing up.
Empowering Women in Sports and Street Culture
Morris’s ambassadorship goes beyond mere representation. She plans to actively participate in community events and support initiatives celebrating women in sports. Her unique position allows her to bridge the gap between traditional sports and street culture.
“There is a continuous need for female representation in sports and especially street culture,” Morris emphasized. She aims to showcase a more androgynous style, stating, “You don’t have to be the girliest of the girls to wear my collection.”
From NCAA Champion to Harlem Globetrotter: Morris’s Journey
Morris’s path to AND1 ambassador is as impressive as it is unconventional. After winning the NCAA championship with Louisiana State University, she was drafted by the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun but was cut during the 2023 preseason.
Undeterred, Morris made her professional debut as a Harlem Globetrotter in February 2024. This experience has allowed her to hone her streetball skills while entertaining audiences worldwide.
Future Aspirations: WNBA Dreams and Signature Collection
While embracing her role with AND1 and the Harlem Globetrotters, Morris still has her sights set on the WNBA. She hopes to bring her streetball flair to the league, potentially revolutionizing the game’s style.
Moreover, Morris’s deal with AND1 includes the opportunity to design her signature collection. This platform will allow her to further empower Black athletes and creators while leaving her mark on basketball fashion.
