Rumi Carter Makes Billboard History at Just 6 Years Old
Sibling rivalry often makes for great pop dynasties, and the Carter sisters are no exception. Beyoncé’s two daughters, Blue Ivy and Rumi, are proving that the future of music is in good hands.
Rumi Carter, just 6 years and 9 months old, has made Billboard history by becoming the youngest female artist to chart on the prestigious Hot 100 list. This record was previously held by her older sister Blue Ivy, who first broke onto the chart at the age of 7 back in 2019.
Rumi Continues the Carter Family’s Musical Legacy
Rumi’s debut on the Hot 100 comes from her feature on Beyoncé’s song “Protector,” where she opens the track by sweetly asking her mother, “Mom, can I hear the lullaby, please?” This new milestone cements the Carter family’s status as music royalty, with the youngest generation already making waves.
Blue Ivy was also an overachiever at a young age, contributing lyrics and vocals to Beyoncé’s 2019 hit “Brown Skin Girl” when she was just 7 years old. The song peaked at #76 on the Hot 100, making Blue Ivy the previous record holder for youngest female artist to chart.
The Youngest Person to Chart on Billboard
While Rumi has broken the record for youngest female artist, the overall record for youngest person to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 still belongs to French singer Jordy Lemoine. He was just 4 years old when his song “Dur dur d’être bébé!” (“It’s Hard to Be a Baby”) peaked at #58 in 1993.
The Carter family’s musical legacy continues to grow with each generation. Beyoncé’s eldest daughter Blue Ivy has also been featured on her mother’s songs since the age of 1, making her the youngest person to appear on any Billboard chart back in 2012. And Victoria Monét’s 2-year-old daughter Hazel Monét is already making Grammy-nominated appearances.
It’s clear that the Carter sisters are just getting started, and music fans around the world are eagerly awaiting to see what other records they’ll shatter in the years to come.
