Prestigious Recognition for a Fashion Trailblazer
Bryon Javar, the renowned celebrity stylist behind the iconic looks of Marsai Martin, Quinta Brunson, Megan Thee Stallion, and more, was honored with the prestigious André Leon Talley Award at the Better Brothers Los Angeles Truth Awards in Beverly Hills.
This coveted recognition celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions to the fashion industry.
“It felt amazing and a bit unreal being handed the award from Janelle herself. [She] is a change maker and has shifted the culture in her own way. It made it even more special to have her honor me with that. She’s an incredible friend and storyteller, so her words meant so much,” Javar shared, expressing his gratitude for receiving the award from his longtime friend and Grammy Award-winning artist Janelle Monae.
A Journey of Perseverance and Determination
Born in Compton, California, Javar’s passion for styling ignited during his high school years, leading him to pursue a creative career path. Over the past decade, he honed his craft under the mentorship of the Black Eyed Peas stylist, Lor-e Phillips, gradually establishing himself as an “image maker” in the industry.
Initially, Javar felt unseen in the industry for quite some time. However, receiving the André Leon Talley Award served as a wake-up call, prompting him to celebrate his accomplishments and reflect on his journey. “It makes me sit back and look at how far I’ve come, and know that I’ve accomplished a lot,” he shared.
The André Leon Talley Award honors the late fashion icon’s immense contributions to the industry. For Javar, Talley’s legacy serves as a reminder to embrace authenticity in every space he occupies. “Javar’s main takeaway from Talley is to be himself in every room he walks into,” the article states.
Paving the Way for Future Generations
Javar’s aspirations extend beyond personal achievements. He aims to continue using his gifts to transform the images of the talent he works with and remove barriers for other Black stylists who will follow in his footsteps.
