Tony, Emmy, and Grammy winner Cynthia Erivo will take center stage as host of theater’s most prestigious celebration. The ceremony returns to Radio City Music Hall on June 8, 2025, broadcasting live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
“I am so proud and excited to take on this glorious honor,” Erivo shared in a press release. The acclaimed performer stands just one Oscar away from achieving coveted EGOT status.

Erivo first captured hearts on Broadway with her breakthrough role in The Color Purple, earning her first Tony Award. Her magnetic stage presence and powerful vocals established her as a force in musical theater.
Recently, she starred as Elphaba in Universal’s record-breaking adaptation of Wicked. The role showcased her remarkable range and earned widespread critical acclaim.
Her selection as host brings together her theatrical background with her growing influence across entertainment. ESSENCE will honor her with the Cultural Icon Award at their 2025 Black Women in Hollywood celebration.
