Tony, Emmy, and Grammy winner Cynthia Erivo will take center stage as host of theater’s most prestigious celebration. The ceremony returns to Radio City Music Hall on June 8, 2025, broadcasting live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
“I am so proud and excited to take on this glorious honor,” Erivo shared in a press release. The acclaimed performer stands just one Oscar away from achieving coveted EGOT status.
Broadway Icon Returns to Her Theatrical Roots
Erivo first captured hearts on Broadway with her breakthrough role in The Color Purple, earning her first Tony Award. Her magnetic stage presence and powerful vocals established her as a force in musical theater.
Recently, she starred as Elphaba in Universal’s record-breaking adaptation of Wicked. The role showcased her remarkable range and earned widespread critical acclaim.
Her selection as host brings together her theatrical background with her growing influence across entertainment. ESSENCE will honor her with the Cultural Icon Award at their 2025 Black Women in Hollywood celebration.
Multi-Talented Artist Brings Fresh Energy to Tony Awards
Beyond her acting prowess, Erivo has proven herself as a versatile artist. She released her debut album Ch. 1 Vs. 1 in 2021, showcasing her musical talents.
Through her production company, Edith’s Daughter, she champions underrepresented voices in entertainment. This commitment to diversity aligns with Broadway’s evolving landscape.
Theater executives Heather Hitchens and Jason Laks praised her ability to “extend the magic of musical theater to millions of new fans around the globe.”
A Night of Broadway Excellence
CBS executive Mackenzie Mitchell expressed confidence in Erivo’s hosting abilities. “With her deep roots in the theater community, we are honored to have her host this year’s Tony Awards.”
The ceremony promises to showcase the best of Broadway. Tony Award Productions will collaborate with White Cherry Entertainment, with Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss serving as executive producers.
Nominations will be announced on May 1, building anticipation for what Erivo calls “a night that celebrates wonderful performances throughout the year.”
