Trailblazing Business Executive Brings Legacy Brands to the Political Stage
Desiree Rogers, the dynamic business executive and entrepreneur, has once again proven her commitment to elevating Black excellence. As the CEO of Black Opal and Fashion Fair cosmetics companies, Rogers has been named the lead beauty sponsor for the 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago.
This partnership is a true full-circle moment for Rogers, who has long been civically and politically engaged. The DNC’s host location this year is Chicago, the city she has called home for over two decades. Moreover, Rogers has supported Vice President Kamala Harris, who is expected to run for the presidency, for more than 20 years.
Reviving Iconic Black-Owned Brands
In 2019, Rogers and her business partner, Cheryl Mayberry McKissack, bought out Fashion Fair, a landmark cosmetics company created in 1973 by Eunice Johnson to cater to the needs of Black women. Prior to that, Rogers had also purchased Black Opal, another renowned brand in the Black beauty industry.
Under their leadership, these iconic brands have been reimagined for the modern Black consumer, while staying true to their mission of centering Black beauty in every business decision.
“We need them going into the stores and asking for about us. These brands have always been here for you. And although we don’t have the big marketing budgets that huge makeup brands have to hire 20 TikTok influencers, we do know that we care deeply about Black women. We want to help you continue to feel good wherever you go, no matter what you’re doing. Now, we need you to be here for us,” says Rogers.
Bringing Black Beauty to the Political Stage
As the official beauty sponsor for the 2024 DNC, Black Opal and Fashion Fair will provide products to 10 on-site makeup artists at the event. This allows the brands to reach customers where they are, further solidifying their commitment to making high-quality, inclusive cosmetics accessible to all.
Rogers’ journey has been marked by a commitment to excellence and a deep understanding of the importance of representation.
From her early days in the corporate world to her tenure in the White House and now as the steward of two iconic Black-owned brands, she has consistently used her platform to uplift and empower the Black community.
