Queen of Hip-Hop Soul Launches Iconic Footwear Line
After years of rocking statement boots, Mary J. Blige finally has her own namesake style. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul joined forces with Italian fashion house Giuseppe Zanotti on a limited-edition collaboration named “The Mary Boot.”
Blige unveiled the over-the-knee silhouette, featuring a striking gold chrome colorway, a scrunch-like look, a pointed toe, and a block heel, during her Strength of a Woman Festival and Summit in New York City.
Fans praised the iconic collaboration, calling it “well-deserved” and exclaiming, “ABOUT DAMN TIME.” However, some criticized the $1,295 price tag, arguing that Blige’s “day-one fans” might find the boots unaffordable.
Blige’s Signature Over-the-Knee Boot Style
“We’ve been waiting for a boot drop forrrrrrrreeeeevvvvrrrr,” one fan wrote as another gushed, “ABOUT DAMN TIME.”
Blige has become synonymous with over-the-knee boots, rocking the style on stages and red carpets for years.
At the 2018 Met Gala, she wore custom gold-embroidered Versace boots complementing her floor-length gown. Her stylist, Law Roach, wanted her to look like a “warrior princess.”
A Fashion Icon’s Journey
When she received the Icon Award at the Urban One Honors in January, Blige took the stage in a fitted black gown teamed with shiny, thigh-high boots.
At the 2023 Strength of a Woman Summit, she wore slouchy, denim over-the-knee boots by Balenciaga with a matching logo-adorned romper.
In 2011, Blige revealed that her go-to boots were a “really comfortable” pair of Dior shoes with an “amazing” heel that allowed her to walk without bending over.
