Hip-hop legend MC Lyte delivered an inspiring keynote address at Bowie State University’s Winter 2024 Commencement on December 19.

“Just as much as I would want the HBCU students to understand how much power they have, how much change can occur due to their voices and their activity,” MC Lyte emphasized.
The Brooklyn-born artist spoke at the Leonidas S. James Physical Education Complex in Maryland. Her message centered on students’ potential for creating positive change.

She specifically noted the importance of support systems. The artist highlighted how crucial cheerleaders are during students’ academic journeys.

Through her Hip Hop Sisters Foundation, MC Lyte has awarded over $1 million in scholarships. Her nonprofit focuses on education and empowerment.
The “Paper Thin” rapper continues her community engagement beyond education. She recently participated in Salaam Remi’s MuseZeuM art installation during Art Basel Miami.
