Lagos witnessed history as Nigerian fashion designer Liz Sanya crafted the world’s largest sandal. The massive pink clog measures 4.8 meters in length.
Historic Achievement: Nigerian Designer Sets New World Record
Liz Sanya completed her extraordinary feat between January 2 and January 4, 2025. The Ibadan-born designer surpassed the previous record held by Mexican artisans.
Local celebrities rallied behind Sanya’s ambitious project. Musicians Mayorkun, Pheelz, P.Priime, and Taves joined filmmaker Korty to support her vision.
The previous record featured a traditional sandal measuring 10 feet wide and 24 feet long. Sanya’s creation has now set a new global standard.
From Teenage Designer to World Record Holder
Sanya’s journey began at age 12 when she first started designing shoes. By 14, she was selling her creations to support her passion.
“I started designing shoes when I was 12 and by 14 I was selling them,” Sanya shared. Her determination led to this groundbreaking achievement.
“Believing in me is free, doubting me will cost you,” she declared after completing the record-breaking sandal.
Community Support and Social Media Celebration
The Lagos community embraced Sanya’s ambitious project wholeheartedly. She documented the entire process through Instagram highlights.
Supporters flooded social media with encouraging messages. “Stomp the world” and “Left your footprint in the world” celebrated her success.
Her achievement resonates deeply with her Nigerian roots. “Ibadan where I was born. Lagos where I was inspired,” she proudly stated.
