Queen Latifah Adds Prestigious Kennedy Center Honors To Long List Of Awards Received Over Her Illustrious Career In Entertainment
In a dazzling ceremony held at the White House on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2023, President Joe Biden extended a warm welcome to Queen Latifah and the other distinguished recipients of the 2023 Kennedy Center Honors,
The awards highlight the honorees’ profound impact on American culture and the performing arts.
Apart from Queen Latifah, this year’s esteemed honorees include another African American woman, Dionne Warwick, alongside celebrated figures Billy Crystal, Renée Fleming, and Barry Gibb.
Queen Latifah, a multifaceted talent recognized for her achievements in both music and acting, was acknowledged by President Biden as a “natural storyteller” and lauded for using her art to break down barriers.
The 53-year-old artist, who has left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry with films like “Chicago” and “Bringing Down the House,” was also celebrated for her Grammy Award-winning solo rap performance in 1994.
Expressing her gratitude, Queen Latifah told reporters:
“I feel very blessed. I feel very honored.”
Actress Kerry Washington, a friend of the honoree, chimed in, praising Queen Latifah as one of the “best rappers of all time.”
Latifah has won well over 30 prestigious awards over her sterling career in Entertainment. She was recently honored on the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame.
The annual event pays tribute to individuals who have significantly shaped the nation’s cultural landscape.
