Trailblazing Women in Law Enforcement Celebrated
The Metropolitan Dade County section of the National Council of Negro Women Inc. hosted its 30th annual Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Umbrella Awards and Recognition Luncheon on April 28th. The event honored five esteemed Black women in law enforcement for their significant contributions to society.

Honoring Director Stephanie V. Daniels’ Historic Achievement
Among the honorees was Director Stephanie V. Daniels of the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD), recognized for her groundbreaking role as the first woman sworn into the position of leading one of the largest police departments in the United States.
“Director Stephanie V. Daniels, MDPD, was honored for her work in law enforcement as the first woman sworn into her position,” the report stated.
Celebrating Diversity in Law Enforcement Leadership
The event celebrated the achievements of Director Daniels, as well as Chief Delma Noelle-Pratt of the Miami Gardens Police Department (MGPD), Director Sherea Green of the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR), Chief Cherise Giordani Gause of the North Miami Police Department (NMPD), and Chief Harvette Smith of the North Miami Beach Police Department (NMBPD).

The luncheon gathered esteemed individuals from various fields to celebrate their significant contributions to society, highlighting the importance of empowering women in law enforcement and recognizing their achievements in leadership roles.
