SOS Tour Breaks Financial Records
SZA has written her name in music history with her recent ‘SOS Tour’. The R&B sensation has become only the fourth Black female artist to gross over $100 million from a single tour.
According to Touring Data, SZA’s tour raked in an impressive $113,119,055. She sold a staggering 807,700 tickets during her first-ever arena tour. This feat places her alongside music icons Beyoncé, Tina Turner, and Rihanna.
The tour’s success follows SZA’s sophomore album ‘SOS’. The album topped the Billboard 200 chart for 10 consecutive weeks, cementing her status in the industry.
Rising Star in Contemporary R&B
Born Solána Imani Rowe, SZA has rapidly become an influential voice in contemporary R&B. Her journey began with her debut album “Ctrl” in 2017, which garnered critical acclaim.
SZA’s popularity soared with hits like “Love Galore”, “The Weekend”, and “Good Days”. She’s also collaborated with industry giants, including Kendrick Lamar on the Grammy-winning track “All the Stars”.
The New Jersey-raised star recently received the Hal David Starlight Award. This honor recognizes gifted young songwriters making significant impacts in the music industry.
From Debut to Dominance
SZA’s rise to stardom has been meteoric. Her debut album “Ctrl” featured collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake, and Travis Scott. The 14-song project received widespread praise from critics and fans alike.
Prior to her record-breaking tour, SZA headlined at Glastonbury. She shared the stage with global stars like Dua Lipa and Coldplay, further solidifying her place in the music world.
SZA’s success extends beyond her own projects. She’s lent her talents to other artists and soundtracks, including the “Black Panther” album.
Breaking Barriers in the Music Industry
SZA’s recent achievement is particularly significant for representation in the music industry. She’s only the second Black woman to receive the Hal David Starlight Award, following Alicia Keys in 2005.
Born in St. Louis, Maplewood, SZA’s journey to stardom is a testament to her talent and hard work. Her success paves the way for future generations of Black female artists in the industry.
