From Hair Struggles to Million-Dollar Success
At just 17, Gabby Goodwin has already achieved what many dream of—a thriving business, $1 million in scholarships, and a new children’s book. The young CEO, who invented the double-snap barrette at age seven, recently announced she’ll attend Vanderbilt University.
Eight top schools offered her merit scholarships, including four full rides. On Instagram, she expressed gratitude before choosing Vanderbilt. Her journey proves that big dreams start early—and pay off.
The Invention That Started It All: GaBBY Bows
Goodwin’s success began with a simple problem. “My mom spent 15-20 minutes every morning styling my hair, but by school pickup, my barrettes were gone,” she recalled. Frustrated, she and her mom, Rozalynn, designed the first anti-slip, double-face double-snap barrette.
They launched GaBBY Bows in 2014, selling over a million units across 16 countries and all 50 U.S. states. Today, Goodwin holds three U.S. patents for her invention. What started as a fix for flyaway hair became a global brand.
A New Book Inspiring Confidence in Young Girls
Goodwin’s latest venture? A children’s book. “Naturally Me at the Confidence Salon”, published by HarperCollins, hit shelves on May 27. The story, inspired by her real-life Confidence Salon, encourages kids to embrace their natural beauty.
“Confidence has always been important to me,” Goodwin told Black News. “I want girls to see themselves in my book and chase their dreams like I did.” With vibrant illustrations by Princess Karibo, the book celebrates diversity and self-love.
Awards, Investments, and Empowering Others
Goodwin’s accolades are impressive. She won South Carolina Young Entrepreneur of the Year at just 10 years old. In 2022, she was named U.S. Small Business Administration Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
Marcus Lemonis and Gayle King surprised her with a $200,000 investment in 2021. Beyond business, she co-founded the Mommy and Me Entrepreneurship Academy, helping 50+ girls launch their own ventures.
What’s Next for the Teen Mogul?
With college ahead and a growing brand, Goodwin’s future shines bright. Her story isn’t just about hair accessories—it’s about perseverance, innovation, and lifting others up.
As she prepares for Vanderbilt, one thing’s clear: Gabby Goodwin is just getting started.
