Frustrations Boiling Over Unequal Pay In Hollywood
Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson made waves in December 2022 by revealing she fired her entire team over failing to capitalize on her hit show Empire. She felt they missed opportunities like endorsement deals that would have cemented her status as a top star.
The outspoken actress has vented frustrations over career setbacks tied to racial and gender bias regarding salaries. Even on acclaimed films like The Color Purple, she had to fight just for basic necessities like trailers and food on set.
50 Cent Vows To Get Her The Money She Deserves
Hip hop mogul 50 Cent caught wind of Henson’s recent candor over industry mistreatment. He immediately took to Instagram promising to hire her for one of his Power spinoff shows on Starz and make sure she gets paid properly.
To back up his pledge, 50 Cent cited the hefty $400,000 per episode salary Starz pays singer Mary J. Blige to star on Power Book II: Ghost. He made clear he doesn’t make empty promises about collaborating and compensating Henson fairly.
Righting Wrongs Of An Unjust System
50 Cent has a history of using his production clout to open doors and broker opportunities for talented performers overlooked unfairly by the establishment. He gave similar public offers to Henson’s Empire co-star Terrence Howard and comedian Mo’Nique when they hit career rough patches.
By recruiting someone of Henson’s caliber, 50 Cent hopes to send a message that Power rewards those the industry has failed – especially women and people of color. If no one else will pay her worth, he certainly will.
