A Groundbreaking Initiative to Address Healthcare Disparities
In a bold move to tackle the alarming diabetes epidemic disproportionately affecting the Black community, registered dietitians and entrepreneurs Wendy Lopez and Jessica Jones have launched Diabetes Digital, a pioneering digital platform aimed at transforming the landscape of diabetes and prediabetes management.
Culturally Competent Care at the Forefront
Recognizing the urgent need for culturally competent healthcare solutions, Diabetes Digital offers virtual nutrition counseling services tailored to the unique needs of diverse communities. The platform provides weight-inclusive and culturally sensitive care, with comprehensive hour-long appointments and virtual consultations available in Spanish.
“Diabetes Digital is more than a platform; it’s a movement towards a more personalized and empathetic approach to diabetes care,” said Jessica Jones, CEO, in a news release.
Addressing Systemic Barriers to Quality Care
The launch of Diabetes Digital comes in response to alarming statistics that highlight the impact of systemic barriers on the Black community’s access to quality healthcare.
According to the Office of Minority Health, in 2018, African American adults were 60% more likely than non-Hispanic white adults to be diagnosed with diabetes by a physician.
In a commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to all, Diabetes Digital welcomes Medicare customers and accepts various insurance plans, including Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, Health Net, and United.
This comprehensive approach ensures that individuals from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds can access the vital care they need.
Representation Matters in Health and Wellness
Wendy Lopez, a co-founder of Diabetes Digital, underscores the importance of representation in the health and wellness industry, stating, “It’s important that people see themselves in health and wellness so that they’re able to feel like this is attainable for them.”
A Holistic Approach to Diabetes Management
With plans for extended expansion across 23 states and beyond, Diabetes Digital aims to provide a holistic and empathetic approach to diabetes care, empowering individuals to take control of their health and well-being while championing inclusivity and representation in the healthcare industry.
Through their groundbreaking digital platform, Wendy Lopez and Jessica Jones are spearheading a movement that not only addresses the diabetes epidemic but also challenges systemic barriers to quality care, ensuring that every individual, regardless of their background, has access to the resources and support they need to lead a healthy and fulfilling life.
