A Medical Breakthrough Fueled by Black Women’s Investment
In a groundbreaking move, Dr. Elizabeth Clayborne, an emergency medicine physician from Maryland, has harnessed the power of Black women’s investment to bring her ingenious medical device, NasaClip, to life.
This revolutionary product aims to provide quick relief for nosebleed patients, addressing a long-standing medical need.
Overcoming Funding Obstacles with Community Support
Clayborne’s journey to secure financing for NasaClip was not without its challenges. Recognizing the dearth of funding directed towards women, especially women of color, in the venture capital and angel investing realms, she turned to her community for support.
“I had heavy support from other physicians who knew me, understood my device, and wanted to support me,” Clayborne shared, acknowledging the invaluable backing she received from fellow Black women.
Shattering Stereotypes and Paving the Way
Clayborne’s success with NasaClip is a testament to the resilience and innovation of Black women entrepreneurs.
Despite facing systemic barriers, with only 0.34% of venture capital going to Black women, Clayborne has defied the odds, proving that Black women statistically outperform their counterparts when given the opportunity.
“Women, in general, represent only 2% of venture capital, but 17% of unicorn exits (private companies valued at one billion U.S. dollars or over),” Clayborne proudly stated, highlighting the untapped potential of Black women entrepreneurs.
A Legacy of Empowerment and Inspiration
For Clayborne, NasaClip’s success is more than just a personal achievement; it’s a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations to come. As a CEO and mother, she is determined to challenge societal norms and inspire her daughters to embrace their entrepreneurial spirit.
“They are three and five, and they think it’s normal for me, as a woman, to be a CEO and a doctor and to be on TV all the time,” Clayborne beamed, reflecting on the impact her success has on her children.
A Holistic Approach to Success and Well-being
Amidst her entrepreneurial pursuits, Clayborne recognizes the importance of self-care and mental well-being.
