Bassett took to Instagram on February 28th to share images from the eye-catching editorial shoot. “Angela Bassett discusses enjoying her winning season, inspiring her twins, and committing to ‘the work,’” she captioned the photos.

In the accompanying interview, the veteran performer opened up about her hopes of empowering younger generations through her enduring success. Bassett reflected specifically on setting an example for her teenage twins, Bronwyn and Slater.
“I hope that what will come out of that is that they see a mama, a woman, a Black woman achieving her dreams, having success,” she told PEOPLE. “They’ll see that hard work pays off. And they’ll be about that life for themselves.”
After winning acclaim, an Oscar nomination, and awards across decades in the business, the cultural icon still remembers her modest upbringing. She credits her early struggles as motivation to keep “fighting to get it.”
