A new podcast celebrating HBCU pageant queens launched December 20, 2024. “Queen of the Yard” shares stories of campus queens across generations.
Breaking Ground in HBCU Cultural Storytelling
Award-winning filmmaker Stacey L. Holman and writer/producer Tracee Loran co-created this groundbreaking project. The podcast highlights themes of sisterhood and leadership within the HBCU experience.
“Each Campus Queen has a story worth celebrating,” Holman says. “The podcast gives voice to these journeys while underscoring the cultural significance of this legacy.”
Legacy of Campus Queens and Their Impact
HBCU queens represent their institutions with distinction and grace during their reign. These women embody their school’s values and mission throughout their tenure.
The podcast explores the journey to wearing the crown. It connects past and present queens through shared experiences and traditions.
Television Series Development and Community Support
A companion television dramedy is currently in pre-production. The creators launched a Crowdfundr campaign seeking $35,000 for a five-minute concept film.
“This is more than a TV series; it’s a love letter to HBCUs and the extraordinary women who uphold their legacy,” says Loran. Part of the donations support the National Coalition of 100 Black Women.
