Rising R&B star Ravyn Lenae made her Coachella debut on Friday during the 2025 festival at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. The Chicago-raised songstress took to the Mojave Tent stage at 2:35 PM, greeting thousands of eager fans in a stunning Renaissance-inspired leather outfit that perfectly embodied her current artistic era.
Fans roared with excitement as Lenae stepped onto the stage with her signature red hair flowing against her earth-toned, Victorian-inspired two-piece ensemble. Despite the desert heat, the 26-year-old vocalist delivered flawless high notes that soared through the tent while festival-goers danced to her enchanting melodies.
Renaissance Fashion Meets Modern R&B on the Coachella Stage
Lenae’s showstopping outfit came from KNWLS London’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection. The off-white shoulder coverage combined with an earth-colored structured design gave her the appearance of a fashionable knight. Her look featured exposed hips, a framed corset design, and a detailed draped skirt.
“We are in this new era, we kind of portray notes of Renaissance, [and] newer Victorian era mixed with an early 2000 Aaliyah grunge,” explained Sakinah Bashir, Lenae’s stylist, before heading to Indio for the performance. The distinctive look perfectly complemented Lenae’s Bird’s Eye album aesthetics, which she describes as maintaining “a sultry, sensual, and sexy feel” but “with a Renaissance, almost Victorian visual language.”
Their partnership has blossomed over the past year, with Lenae wearing designer pieces from brands like Luar, Burberry, and Acne under Bashir’s artistic direction. The Coachella stage offered them a chance to “push the boundary” of their established visual identity.
“Love Me Not” Singer Brings Timeless Vocals to Her First Coachella
Despite living in Los Angeles for years, this marked Lenae’s first time attending Coachella. Remarkably, her introduction to the iconic festival came not as a guest but as a performer. “A lot of my Coachella performance is me rehearsing and thinking about the set up, making sure that I’m catering to my OG fans but then also for the many new people who will be discovering me,” Lenae shared before her performance.
The vocalist earned her first Billboard Hot 100 entry with “Love Me Not” and has been gaining new listeners after working professionally for over a decade. During her set, both new and longtime fans were treated to a mix of her classic hit “Sticky” alongside newer tracks like “Days” and “Genius.”
“These seasoned artists like Lizzo and Chappell [Roan] who’ve been here for 10 plus years have just recently blew up,” Lenae noted about the current music landscape. “We are in a time where people are just honoring the time that people put in, and they are excited about it.”
Bird’s Eye Album Era Showcases Musical Growth and Emotional Depth
Lenae’s recent Bird’s Eye album explores the emotional journey through lovesickness and growth. Her performance captured this sentiment perfectly as her otherworldly vocal range filled the Mojave Tent with emotion and power.
The tent vibrated with dust and infectious energy as fans connected with her sophisticated lyrics and unmatched vocal abilities. Many festival-goers compared her sound to various eras spanning the 1950s through early 2000s, showcasing her timeless appeal.
“It’s just so cool to see people think that ‘Love Me Not’ is a song from the early 2000s, or the 50’s, 60’s or the 70s. It shows it had all the makings of a timeless song,” Lenae remarked about her music’s cross-generational appeal. This quality was on full display during her afternoon set as her supernatural vocal capabilities echoed across the festival grounds.
