It’s not the diamonds. It’s not the pearls. It’s the tour! I’m That Girl mega sensation Beyoncé has the internet abuzz since announcing she’s going on the Renaissance World Tour in the summer of 2023. The former Destiny’s Child singer broadcast the news during the Where Art Can Occur’s (WACO) fifth annual Wearable Art Gala Saturday. The tour is set to include “national and international destinations.”
The auction, starting at $20,000, included first-class plane tickets, a three-night hotel stay, two Renaissance concert tickets, and a guided backstage tour from Beyoncé’s mom and our auntie, Ms. Tina. Video from the event shows that bids started at $50,000. The winner has not been revealed, but sources say the package was auctioned off at $150,000.
“The first two tickets for Beyoncé’s upcoming RENAISSANCE tour were sold for $150k,” tweeted one Twitter user. “This is about to be a blood bath. This game has been moved to a new level.”
“Me at the Renaissance Tour when Beyoncé say “sing it y’all!!!” but I know I can’t hit that note,” tweeted another.
Founded in 2017 by Richard and Tina Knowles Lawson, the WACO Theater Center serves as a cultural institution providing contemporary performing and visual arts of the African Diaspora. Beyoncé currently serves as the charity event’s honorary co-chair and has supported the event in previous years. In 2020, she won the organization’s Humanitarian Award.
“Thank you to the most incredible woman, my mother,” She taught me that there’s something more valuable than any dollar amount, and that’s time,” she said while accepting the award. “Time to put someone else first. Time to change the trajectory of a child, of a village, of a community, and time to tell another person that you matter to me, you matter to the world and that your contributions are important.”
